SPARTANBURG — There's a new place to care for dogs and cats in downtown Spartanburg. This is the culmination of one owner's lifelong efforts.
Pet's Favorite Play Place will open in late 2023 along the Rail Trail downtown and represents the next logical step for owner Caroline Cofer.
“I'm a veterinarian,” Cofer said. It was my plan to own my own pet-related business. ”
Cofer grew up in Tennessee, where he worked as a veterinarian treating dogs and cats, but moved to Spartanburg County in 2017 and founded Pet's Favorite Vet, which he still operates. There is.
It wasn't easy, but opening her own day care facility seemed like the right thing to do.
“I honestly never thought about working for someone else in my life,” Cofer said.
In addition to a daycare center, the facility also has lodging facilities, a dog washing area, and a dog run. But Cofer said it's her and her staff's dedication to pets that sets them apart.
The staff is specially trained to care for the needs of pets, and because of Cofer's background in veterinary medicine, there is a special emphasis on hygiene and preventing disease outbreaks.
Enriching your pet with puzzles and games is also a top priority so that your pet isn't just lying around doing nothing.
“For some older dogs, the women just sit and read dog books,” Cofer says. “Ensuring mental stimulation is also very important for a happy and healthy dog.”
It's not just fun for dogs and cats. Hopefully by April, the daycare's dog park will have sports TVs and a bar where owners can relax with a drink and watch the soccer game while their dogs play.
In addition to running a veterinary hospital in Boiling Springs, Cofer has been busy buying land for a daycare and building a business, but the business is going well and she's happy with the team she's assembled. Told.
“Nobody can do it all by themselves. There are so many people who say they did it all by themselves,” she said.
Now that business is up and running, Cofer said she's really happy to be able to help Spartanburg's pets. The county has sometimes had trouble accepting animals.
“I just want to help give dogs and cats and their people a great life,” she said. “I want to help people with whatever they need to take the best care of their pets.”
