Delaney Jantz, a master's student in the School of Education and Health Professions, was recently selected to participate in the Major League Baseball On Deck Sales Program. The eight-week program provides participants with virtual training sessions on ticket sales and hands-on experience with his MLB team. This experience serves as a pipeline for those who want to work behind the scenes in the sports industry.
As an undergraduate at the Sam M. Walton College of Business, Janz knew a career in sports was for him. She decided to further her knowledge of athletics as a graduate student in the Master's program in Recreation and Sports Management.
Janz grew up the daughter of an athletic director, and said when she was offered the position of graduate assistant in ticket operations and sales for Razorback Athletics, it felt like a natural fit.
“I enjoy the community and the networking it allows. Since we have such a large population, I'm always meeting people who work in different departments,” Jantz said. “Athletics can involve long hours and late nights, so being a GA creates a sense of camaraderie and builds relationships. Sharing these experiences with my fellow Razorbacks will help me prepare for next year. My expectations are only increasing.”
With his On Deck Winter Student experience, Janz has had the opportunity to further his knowledge of the sports industry by meeting people who currently work in MLB and students from around the country who share his interests.
“We basically take training sessions from sales executives and work hands-on with 30 teams in MLB,” she said. “In the first few weeks, we heard from multiple female leaders from sales teams to executives.”
Jantz is looking toward a future where he can work full-time in professional sports.
“I loved helping people experience the team they love and discover the passion that Razorback fans have,” she said. “I would like to pursue a career in professional sports where I can focus on one team year-round.”
