KINGSTON, R.I. – February 5, 2024 – The University of Rhode Island Cooperative Extension is hosting the Rhode Island Food Safety Task Force meeting. Wednesday, February 14th. From the conference, From 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Held at the Radisson Hotel in Warwick, it will provide participants with the basics on how to start and run a successful food business from home.
Home food manufacturing is a thriving industry in Rhode Island, where certain foods can be produced in home kitchens and sold directly to consumers. This conference will focus on regulatory requirements for cottage food production with presentations on food safety culture, food safety considerations in cottage food production, and information for growing your food business. Advance registration is required.
The conference will be led by Nicole Richard, a Cooperative Extension food safety researcher who helps businesses and consumers operate safely. Richard has over 15 years of experience in developing food safety resources and programming through the University's Food Safety Research and Education Program. As chair of the Rhode Island Food Safety Task Force, she participates in meetings with speakers from the Rhode Island Department of Health, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to discuss food safety and regulations, and allergen management.
