“How the hell did they beat UNC?”
On Tuesday night, Tech defeated the Heels 74-73 in Atlanta, with partner Eve Dauona guarding RJ Davis' final shot, which Davis missed. The referees clearly didn't get the memo that they were supposed to call a foul on the shot attempt, and UNC wasn't happy with their officiating. They will probably be fired. Victory became even more unlikely when Baye Ndongo, the team's top rebounder and second-leading scorer, was sidelined with a head injury five minutes into the game.
- The Heels should have won for the following reasons: 16 more shot attempts, 3 more FGs, and UNC won – rebounds, assists, steals, fewer turnovers, fast break points, points in the paint. , fewer fouls.
Here's why the Yellow Jackets won.
- 1 extra 3PT shot – 45% 3PT shooting (now 9 vs. UNC's 8)
- 6 extra free throws – FT-A made 17 for both teams, but Tech made 15 (88%) and UNC made 9 (52.9%)
player notes
- Myles Kelly – 2nd in points, FG-A, 3PT-A, rebounds, leads team in minutes played
- Baye Ndongo – 7th 3rd in ACC in rebounding, 3rd in FG%
- Nathan George – 2n.d. Assist in ACC
- Kyle Sturdivant came off the bench against UNC and led the team with 18 points, including 4-4 on 3-pointers.
- Tatara Ngapare and Tizan Claude came off the bench against UNC and each had eight rebounds and three blocked shots.
Injuries to key players
Baye Ndongo – Head injury – Not sure if it affected the game, but it didn't affect UNC's result.

Game key:
- The Yellow Jackets are not a great defensive team, so we should be able to get to the basket.
- They are prone to turnovers and poor shots.
- Tech is a good rebounding team and ranks third in the league.
- They are big, with an average height of 6 feet 7 inches for the projected starting lineup.
How the Wolfpack can win:
- Rebounding – To offset one of the Jackets' strengths, they'll have to rebound much better than they did against Miami. Because of GT's size, he must block out and rebound well in all positions.
- Shot Selection – Earned an assist on 65% of his field goals against Miami. This trend needs to continue if we are to improve on the recent poor shot quality.
- Protect the Stars – Miles Kelly is “that guy.” Jaden Taylor needs to earn that assignment and work hard to earn his points.
- Don't let them get too hot from the arc – Kowasie Reeves Jr. (39.4%) and Kyle Sturdivant (40%) are their two best 3PT shooters off the bench.
- Guarding the Power Forward – Assuming GT forward Baye Ndongo plays, he becomes a matchup problem. At 6'9'' he is the second leading scorer and top rebounder with a 60.2% FG shooting percentage.
- Utilize Our Depth – Tech may be the deepest team we play this season, they have 10 players averaging 10 minutes or more. He needs to use his bench well early to avoid gassing up late.
