DES MOINES, Iowa – All the stories surrounding the Iowa Animal Rescue League seem to have a common thread. That means shelters are at or beyond capacity. In the event of a mass ingestion, shelters are forced to get creative to help Iowa's pets.
Now, ARL wants to host adoption events at lower rates and free up space. From February 2nd to 4th, the adoption fee will be reduced to $40 for all dogs and cats over 6 months of age at any ARL location. Usually the price ranges from $60 to $200 depending on the age of the pet. Therefore, staff say this is a deal the public will never want to miss.
“This is a significant adoption fee considering the amount of money we give to every animal,” said Brian Madison, ARL's customer experience manager. “By the time they reach the adoption floor, they earn an average of about $600 per animal by the time they get spayed or neutered, updated vaccinations, dental care, etc. That's a lot of money. But we want to help the public, offer them lower rates this weekend, and hopefully get their pets into good homes.”
ARL says owning a dog actually helps two animals because it allows you to make space for other pets. The shelter told WHO13 that they needed the space and had already been booked a month in advance to hand over the animals.
