Oneida, N.Y. — Governor Kathy Hochul has awarded $100 million to 50 school districts and BOCES to address learning loss and provide mental health support for students due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This includes a $1 million student mental health RECOVS grant to the Oneida City School District.
This funding will expand student access to evidence-based interventions to combat learning loss and empower staff and students to identify and address mental health concerns. The announcement builds on Hochul's priority of expanding mental health support for students.
“New York State is making historic investments to ensure all students are on a path to success,” Hochul said in a news release. “This funding will help our teachers and school staff identify where students are falling behind and provide them with the critical resources they need to support their mental health, especially after the pandemic. It helps provide.”
The COVID-19 Learning Loss Recovery School Program Grant supported 15 school districts and BOCES programs across the state. This funding will expand student access to academic recovery specialists to address learning loss. Improving the ability of school staff and students to identify learning loss. Mental Health RECOVS grants will help 40 school districts and BOCES expand and support practices that promote mental health and wellness, improving the ability of staff and students to identify mental health concerns and increase help-seeking behaviors I've let it happen.
