The Michigan high school boys basketball season is entering its final week of the regular season, with teams battling for a conference championship and playoff momentum.
Some teams rise to the challenge and make improvements at the right time.

upward trend
Chesaning
Chesaning overcame a scare with a 48-47 win over Mount Morris, followed by a 60-47 win over Webberville to improve its undefeated record to 14-0. After Friday's game against Montrose, Chesaning will be out of the Mid-Michigan Activities Conference to play Monday's game against Valley Lutheran, followed by Wednesday's make-up game against New Lothrop.
Freeland
Freeland heads into a busy week by defeating Frankenmuth, overcoming one of the Tri-Valley Conference's biggest challenges and extending its winning streak to six. After Friday's game in Bridgeport, the Falcons have a make-up game against Essexville Garber on Saturday and a game against Alma on Tuesday.
Nouvelle
After starting the season 0-3, Nouvel has won 11 straight games but faces a busy week starting with Friday's game at Brock Creek. After Monday's game in Ithaca, the Panthers will play a nonconference game against Caro on Wednesday.
saginaw high school
Saginaw High School has won five straight games and is undefeated in January with wins over Flint Powers and Romulus. After Friday's game against Mount Pleasant, the Trojans will travel to Dow for Tuesday's game. A make-up game against Heritage is coming up on Thursday, February 8th.
sanford meridian
Meridian was no threat in the Jack Pine Conference either, extending its winning streak to five games with a 69-49 win over Gladwin. The Mustangs play back-to-back games at Sheppard on Thursday and Farwell on Friday before playing Hemlock in a non-conference game on Tuesday.
