Each week, we spotlight animals looking for forever homes at local shelters.
This week's Big Country Pet of the Week is Kaya.
Kaya
Kaya is still waiting to meet her new family at the Palouse Humane Society. She is a fully grown Alaskan Malamute mix weighing 80 pounds. Kaya has already been spayed and she is about 9 years old.Shelter staff explained “h”energetic, bossy, sociable, kind, confident, gentle.
Kaya is looking for a home without cats or other dogs. We believe she will thrive as the only pet that can be the center of attention. Kaya, who is about 9 years old, suffers from arthritis in her back legs and her lower back. Her arthritis is currently being managed with joint supplements and anti-inflammatory drugs, for which her future family is expected to pay about $60 a month. Despite her arthritis, Kaya enjoys short walks to stretch her legs. She also runs and jumps with joy when it snows.
Kaya is HSoP's longest-staying adoptable pet, first coming to the shelter in 2019. After such a long stay, Kaya will need enough time to decompress and adapt to her future environment. She is a happy girl who hopes to find her a loving and comfortable retirement home to spend her golden years. Treats are her favorite and a great encouragement to listen to what she says. Kaya is loved by all the staff, visitors, and volunteers and is ready to call her family her own. Kaya is used to the meal and bathroom break schedule at the shelter, and she will welcome a similar schedule in her future home. Kaya's adoption fee has been generously supported and her future family will receive her two weeks worth of medication to begin treatment.
