FORT COLLINS — Two Weld County veterinary clinics have accused Fort Collins-based pet crematoriums of improperly disposing of pets, not adhering to agreements to separate pet remains, and disposing of animals other than designated pets. He was accused of providing footprints.
Throver Shop LLC, doing business as Edwards Veterinary Care in Greeley, and Western Skies Animal Rehabilitation LLC of Windsor filed the lawsuit Friday against Precious Memories Pet Cemetery and Crematory.
This lawsuit is filed under the Colorado Consumer Protection Act. The veterinary hospital claims that Precious Memories intentionally “failed to provide the services as advertised and billed.”
Specifically, the lawsuit alleges, “Defendants withheld and failed to disclose information…by performing individual cremations when individual cremations were requested and by providing clay footprints of animals other than those requested.” “The crematorium failed to disclose that the crematorium had treated the animals it accepted unfairly, such as by disposing of the animals.” Bury the animal in a landfill if a general mass cremation is requested, in a mass grave if a general mass cremation is requested, and if an on-site scattering service is advertised and requested. Disposed of animal remains and ashes in a landfill. ”
The lawsuit names Lisa Kumarin Staggs as the owner of Precious Memories, and the Colorado Secretary of State states that Lisa Staggs founded the company in January 2003 and as of December 26, 2023. But it shows that he was listed as the company's registered agent. However, Samantha Lemon Staggs answered the phone to the facility and told BizWest that she was the owner.
“We are under new ownership,” she said. She's not sure when the ownership changed, but she said it happened a few years ago.
She denied the charges. “I wouldn’t do that,” she said.
An email message sent to Dana Edwards at Edwards Clinic was not acknowledged. The person who answered the phone asked her to email her questions.
