The National Alliance on Mental Illness Greater Wheeling hosted an open house Tuesday at its new Bridgeport Drop-In Center.
Ohio Valley Options LLC, a home for men diagnosed with mental health or substance use disorders, also hosted an open house.
The drop-in center provides free services to adults receiving mental health treatment. No reservations required.
“This is a great place for individuals receiving mental health treatment to find a community of support,” said Julie Gomez, executive director of NAMI Greater Wheeling.
Keith Miller, director and supervisor of the Bridgeport Drop-In Center, directs most of the activities at the center.
“Keith has fun and different activities every day. We provide free lunch for participants,” Gomez said.
Gomez said some of the activities include arts and crafts and listening to music.
Gomez said NAMI Greater Wheeling also has a drop-in center in Wheeling, and opening the new location is helping it reach more people.
“This was a great opportunity for us to kind of expand and cross the (Ohio) River,” Gomez said.
The drop-in center is open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Located on National Route 855B.

Although Ohio Valley Options is a separate company from NAMI, they worked with NAMI to host the open house.
“We wanted to do the open house on the same day so people could visit both and kind of see both, because they're all for people who have mental health issues. Because it’s related to aid,” Gomez said.
OVO owner and operator Kelly Sellers said they are still working through the permitting process and plan to open the new facility by March.
“We will be providing living space for four adult males with co-occurring mental illness and substance use disorders,” Sellers said.
The home is fully furnished and will be provided with kitchen utensils and “basic necessities,” Sellers said.
The sellers said anyone interested in living in the home must fill out an application. She said referrals are ideal but not required.
