Mobley has been out for six weeks after undergoing knee surgery.
Evan Mobley appears ready to return from the sideline.
According to Chris Fedor of cleveland.com, Mobley is “leaning” to play in Monday's game against the Los Angeles Clippers. Mobley, 22, has been out for six weeks after undergoing knee surgery to resolve issues with his left knee. Monday marks exactly six weeks since his surgery, and his recovery timeline falls within six to eight weeks.
According to Fedor, Mobley will make a slow, time-limited return.
Cavs coach J.B. Bickerstaff told Fedor, “It's going to be a low workload, probably 20 minutes a night at first.” “We've got to get him reinvigorated. If you go down with a knee injury, there's not a lot of conditioning and things like that. You can't simulate the NBA. We'll work on it. We need him to get his conditioning back. If that improves, he'll get more playing time.”
Mobley appeared in 21 games this season, averaging 16 points and 10.5 rebounds per game, shooting 58.8 percent from the field.
Mobley's return is great for the Cavs. They've been short on bodies for weeks, and getting Mobley back would solve their frontcourt issues. If Damian Jones comes off the playing time limit, there's a good chance Mobley will play all the playing time of any backup center other than Jarrett Allen and return to the bench.
However, there are also questions about how Mobley will impact the team's style of play, which has led the team to nine wins out of 10 games. The 3-point-heavy, spaced-out style in which Allen is the only big player in the starting five will likely be adjusted with Mobley's return. So what does that mean for the Cavs' style of play and how well did they make it look? And how did Mobley adapt to playing like that and playing differently than he did when he got hurt? Has he found his place in the team?
