WASHINGTON — The clock is ticking toward a critical medical deadline. Open enrollment in the D.C. Health Insurance Marketplace ends Wednesday. DC Health Link is working to help people attend several events in person this weekend across the city.
Joseph, who did not want to give his last name, said he is excited to have access to affordable health care.
“I thought it was great,” Joseph said.
Joseph said he had tried to get help once before but lost his patience.
“A few months ago, I went to 645 H Street, the Medicaid center, and the line was so long I didn't want to bother,” Joseph said.
Sunday was a different story for him after attending one of DC Health Link's pop-up in-person open enrollment events.
“She answered my questions, and at the end of the day, I knew it was simple and everything was handled well,” Joseph said.
He said he's glad he can get the help he needs just a short walk from his home.
“We know some residents need direct assistance with the enrollment process, and that's why we're here,” said Mila Coffman, executive director of the Washington, D.C. Health Benefits Exchange. There are other bases within the country.”
DC Health Link has locations at Ben's Chili Bowl and several other locations around the city.
“We want to make sure that residents who don't have health insurance can get it,” Coffman said.
Coffman said the budget has 27 different options and also includes insurance from CareFirst, Blue Cross Blue Shield and Kaiser Permanente, which will cover all residents. Health insurance costs just $13 a month.
Joseph said if it wasn't that close to home, he wouldn't take any action to register.
“I don't like doing things online. I'm an old-school person, so I would never go online and do it. So if this wasn't here, I wouldn't have done anything. ” Coffman said.
We accept 27 types of private insurance. Click here to sign up or learn more. If you miss the deadline, you will have to wait another year.
