High school hockey on Saturday…
• Horton defeated Jeffers 7-0. Connor Arko and Jace DeForge each had two goals and one assist. Connor Refaeli and Mike Mylett each had one goal and two assists. Grant Scheible also scored for the Gremlins. Bryant Lee made 16 saves and was shutout.
• Calumet shut down De Pere 2-0. Brendan Boberg and Cam Anderson scored for the Copper Kings. Hunter Tuoriniemi made 35 saves.
• Hancock lost to Bayport, 5-2.
Both Houghton swim teams emerged victorious in the three-way meet Saturday at Rudyard.
• The girls team topped Sault Ste. Marie had a record of 99 wins and 84 losses, with the host Bulldogs in third place with 47 points. Kayleigh Carlson won the 200 freestyle and Meg Ruohonen won the diving. The Gremlins won two of the three relays.
• The boys team topped Sault Ste. Marie had 103 wins and 72 losses, with the host Bulldogs in third place with 49 points. The Gremlins had individual wins from Colin Racio in the 200m individual medley and 100m butterfly, Bo Hartajja in the 100m backstroke, Anderson Rimkeman in the 100m breaststroke, and Baha Saleem in the diving. The boys also won in two of the three relay events.
college hockey
The Michigan Technological University hockey team ended its split in a weekend series at Lake Superior State University on Saturday night with a 1-0 victory. Ryland Mosley scored the only goal of the game midway through the third period. Blake Pietila made 26 saves for his 21st career shutout.
The Northern Michigan hockey team lost 4-0 against Minnesota State on Saturday night.
college basketball
The Michigan Tech women's basketball team defeated Northern Michigan University 71-58 on Saturday afternoon. The Huskies built a 16-point lead at halftime. The Wildcats cut it to seven in the third quarter, but Tech held on for the win. Kaitlin Meister paced the Huskies with 16 points. Makaylee Kuhn led the Wildcats with 12 points.
The Tech men's team lost to NMU 98-66. The Wildcats outscored the Huskies by 21 points in the second half to seal the victory. Marcus Tomaszek led the Huskies with 18 points. Max Weisbrod scored 31 points for the Wildcats.
GLHL
On Saturday night, the Portage Lake Pioneers defeated the Waterford Sharks, 9-4.
The Calumet Wolverines defeated the Fond du Lac Bears 5-2.
NHL
Dylan Larkin scored twice as the Red Wings defeated the Golden Knights 5-2 on Saturday night. Jake Wolman, Joe Veleno and Andrew Copp also found the net. Alex Lyon made 28 saves.
The Wings are off until Wednesday, when they entertain the senators. Coverage begins at 6:45 on 99.3 The Rift.
NBA
The Pistons lost to the Wizards 118-104 on Saturday afternoon. Bojan Bogdanovic scored 30 points for Detroit. Cade Cunningham missed the game with a knee injury but returned and recorded 20 points and 12 rebounds.
The Pistons host the Thunder this afternoon.
NFL
The NFL Conference Championship Game will be played today.
• The Chiefs will visit the Ravens in a game at 3 p.m.
• The 49ers will host the Lions in a 6:30 game.
Both games can be watched on 99.3 The Lift.
