SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) – The CNY SPCA adopted out about 1,300 animals last year and plans to have a similar number in 2024. On Saturday, January 27th, they held a “Get Your Pet On” adoption event. and give the animals new homes.
Birch was the longest-serving member of the CNY SPCA to date.
“When I first met him, he was kind of bouncing around a little bit wildly. I thought, 'He's the perfect fit for our family.' We have three boys, so I'm sure they'll fit in well. I liked the way he ran towards me. He just wanted to be touched, he just wanted to be loved. I fell in love with him,” said Birch's new mother, Crystal Skrocki.
After being at the SPCA since March 2023, Birch is finally home with her forever family.
“Now I'm like, 'Okay, I don't need to be there anymore.' You can stay inside. You can be loved. You can run around and be free,” Scrocchi said. Told.
This is the loving home that all SPCA animals hope to find.
“I think shelters have a bad reputation. They think these are broken dogs, but they're not broken dogs. They're dogs that have lost their place for whatever reason,” CNY SPCA Director , Troy Waffner said.
While many want to adopt younger dogs, the SPCA also has older dogs that already understand commands and are house trained.
“If you're just looking for a couch companion or someone to provide therapy, that's the dog you want. You want your older dog to sit there and hang out. They're great for miles of hikes. They don't want to go. They just want to hang out with you, eat dinner and drink beer or something,” Waffner said.
When you're looking for a companion, Waffner believes you should adopt instead of shopping.
“You're saving an animal's life. And you're not just saving one animal. By freeing up a kennel, you're saving the lives of two animals, and we We can adopt another dog and find a home for him,” Waffner said.
At the end of the day, all SPCA animals want to be loved just like any other animal.
