How primary health care (PHC) needs to be transformed in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) to contribute to prevention, preparedness, response, and adaptation to public health emergencies. There is a great need for a deeper understanding of Several risks to public health emergencies exist in the region, including risks posed by climate change, epidemic and pandemic risks, natural disasters, demographic shocks, conflict and violence, and other related factors. To do. All of this is compounded by existing health system weaknesses, tight budgets, public distrust of the system, inequality, and long-standing social and economic hardships.
The new WB-PAHO Lancet Regional Health Americas Regional Committee on PHC and Resilience in the LAC aims to improve knowledge to inform decision-making for the future development of PHC and resilience in the region. The committee aims to:
- Develop a comprehensive policy framework for PHC and resilience.
- Identify the critical strategies and policies that need to be developed and define the key investments that LAC countries can pursue.
