Take a look at a recent Geo Week News article highlighting trends in the mobile mapping market.
Since the beginning of the new year, and actually going back to late last year, we've seen an interesting trend where mobile mapping has come a long way and is gaining more traction than ever before. This is not a new technology, but improvements in everything from the LIDAR sensor itself to the algorithms that enable things like real-time georeferencing and SLAM algorithms have enabled better systems and more powerful use cases. At the same time, these systems have become sufficiently widespread and their accessibility continues to improve, allowing users of different levels to take advantage of this growing space.
With this trend in full swing, it's no wonder that a look back at Geo Week News' recent archives shows a ton of content on this, from hardware to software to tests of the various latest scanners on the market. Not. Below are just some of the things we've seen in the mobile mapping space over the past few months.
Exyn introduces Nexys, a new modular 3D mapping solution
Early last month, Exyn Technology announced its latest and exciting products for the mobile scanning space. Exyn Nexys is a perfect example of how advancements on the hardware side are opening up new possibilities in this space, with the latest products being able to be used as handhelds or attached to everything from drones to ground robots. It is a modular product that can be used. In the car and in the backpack.

Trimble unveils new scanning system at Geo Week 2024
Mobile mapping systems had a large presence on the floor at Geo Week 2024 in Denver last month, with examples dotted throughout the exhibit hall floor. One example of this was the Trimble booth, where his new MX90 mobile mapping scanner, released during the event, was prominently displayed. Jason Hayes, Trimble's manager for his 3D laser and his scanning solutions for the market, spoke with Geo Week News during the event and introduced some of the company's latest technologies.

Introducing road surveying technology to bike lanes and sidewalks
While many of the improvements in the mobile mapping area have been about extending the versatility of the system, here are examples of enhancements for specific markets. XenomatiX specializes in road inspection using mobile LiDAR systems that attach to vehicles and collect road data while driving. Recently they announced his XenoBike. This is the same system that is installed on electric bikes and allows you to drive along bike lines and inspect bike lines and sidewalks. The company hosted a webinar on Geo Week News. I will summarize its contents here.

Mach9 wants to create maps 30x faster than previous standards
While most of this summary focuses on the hardware side, anyone working in this field should be aware that the software is I know it's just as important. That's where Mach9's new Digital Surveyor product comes in. CEO Alexander Baikovitz spoke to Geo Week News about the company's background and why he developed a mobile product that processes data captured through his mapping his workflow.

USIBD tests multiple mobile scanning systems at Geo Week 2024
Returning to Geo Week 2024, one of the most interesting sessions of the event was hosted by the United States Institute of Building Documents (USIBD). After testing various terrestrial scanning systems at Geo Week 2023, the organization returned this year with the idea of testing a mobile system after receiving feedback from a TLS-based session. During this session, they highlighted some of the preliminary results found in their testing, teased a report that will be released later this year to dig into these results in more detail, and asked for direct feedback from the community in attendance. I listened.
