Vinton, Virginia – Over 100 local entrepreneurs working to take their business ideas to the next level.
The 10th Annual Gauntlet Business Competition and Program is underway. Participants will undergo a 10-week program, gain valuable business knowledge and insights, and develop their entrepreneurial skills. The Gauntlet program serves as a platform for entrepreneurs to learn, network, and receive support to take their business ideas to the next level.
It is the largest facility of its kind here in Virginia and has helped hundreds of local businesses start or expand.
“The Gauntlet is the intersection where diverse resources and entrepreneurship meet,” said Advancement Foundation President Annette Patterson. “Advancement Foundation uses this proven business acceleration model to ensure all communities have equal access to critical resources. This collaborative platform includes business resource agencies, community leaders, mentors and , brings together industry experts,” Patterson said.
Tuesday was the fourth class in the 10-week program.
According to Advancement Foundation officials, 121 entrepreneurs representing 94 companies are participating this year.
“It was very powerful for the entrepreneurs. They come in very excited about their idea, but very anxious about their business knowledge. Through this 10-week program, they slowly become… I've been told that I knew more about this than I thought I did, or that I gained some knowledge that I can take home and apply to what I'm doing,” Patterson said. The gauntlet includes stakeholders from the Allegany Highlands, Roanoke Valley, New River Valley, Shenandoah Valley, Southside, and Southwest Virginia to create a strong mentor network by implementing the Advancement Foundation's proven model. Build and accelerate business growth and development.
At the end of the 10 week program. Entrepreneurs can submit their business plans to the competition portion to be eligible to win cash and in-kind prizes. The winner will be announced on May 23rd.
