Airports across New York advise pet owners to check with their chosen airline to ensure that all airline-specific policies are followed, but airports themselves also have their own rules and regulations. There are regulations.
Here's what you need to know about the different pet policies at Rochester and Central New York airports.
Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport
Monroe County Deputy Public Affairs Director Meghan McDermott said pets are allowed inside the airport if they are traveling with their owners, but they should not be brought into the terminal to greet arriving passengers. .
Designated pet rescue areas are located outside the airport and in each concourse.
Syracuse Hancock International Airport
According to officials at Syracuse Hancock International Airport, animals are not allowed inside the airport unless they are transported by air, with the exception of service animals or animals used for law enforcement purposes. In that case, those animals should be leashed or crated.
The airport has several outdoor pet rescue rooms and one inside Terminal A.
Greater Binghamton Airport
Broome County Public Affairs Director Graciela Jensen said pets must be properly restrained or leashed in buildings, and pets that are not service animals and are not intended for travel may not be allowed unless approved by airport management. It states that it cannot be brought into airport facilities.
