The latest edition of Apollo Hospitals' National Health Report, released on April 7, termed India the 'cancer capital of the world' due to the rising number of cancer cases globally. Despite the cancer crisis, there is little public awareness. Health infrastructure also lags behind when it comes to affordable cancer treatment.
Recently, Zerodha CEO Nithin Kamath's wife Seema Patil opened up about how she survived after being diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer in November 2021. In addition to talking about her own recovery, Patel encouraged people to get her cancer screened as early diagnosis could save her life. She emphasized the importance of having life insurance.
Patil appeared on the podcast 'The Other Side' hosted by Dilip Kumar. This episode was posted on World Health Day. Patil said in her podcast that cancer treatment is very expensive and can be completely unaffordable for people who don't have adequate insurance. She said that her regular PET scan costs around Rs 30,000 and these scans are necessary even before starting treatment.
She also talked about how she coped with the side effects of chemotherapy. The former endurance athlete said: “When I first went through chemotherapy, I was shocked and didn't understand what was going on. I would have rather died than gone through this.” But the second time, I decided to let him walk around a bit instead of just lying on the couch. That might change something—and it did. During my second chemotherapy, when things started to get worse, I went for a walk and I recovered faster. ”
Patil lives a very healthy life with plenty of exercise and a healthy diet, but what's the point in being health conscious if you can still get cancer? He said he had doubts. However, she soon realized that her healthy lifestyle would speed up her recovery. In less than a year, she was cancer-free, but if she had had other lifestyle diseases, her recovery would have been even slower.
Patil, 43, has written a detailed blog titled “I'm the healthiest person I know and I got cancer!” in which Patil's She said the cancer first showed up as a small lump on her right side on a mammogram. Patil had no symptoms when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Women over the age of 40 are recommended to have a mammogram every year.
