RUSTON, Mich. — Another late-game rally for Louisiana Tech led to a victory over Middle Tennessee. On Saturday afternoon, Louisiana Tech (25-8) won 6-3 against Middle Tennessee (25-8) at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park.
Tech jumped up 1-0 early in the bottom of the first inning. Ethan Bates got another RBI on Saturday with a single to right field that sent Kasten Farr to third base. Middle Tennessee then tied the game in the second inning after Cale Vinson hit an RBI homer to center field, sending home Trace Phillips and changing the game to 1-1. The Blue Raiders extended their lead in the fourth inning thanks to Vinson's SAC RBI bunt, which was crossed by Brett Von Dorchen to make it 2-1.
Tech then heated up with Will Safford's moonshot three-run run in the sixth inning. Safford (1-for-3, 3 RBI, HR, BB) fed Kennel the ball for his fourth home run of the season. Meanwhile, in the bottom of the 7th inning, Grant Comeau scored an extra run on a SAC fly RBI single for Tech, and Bates took the lead with one run.
In the eighth inning, Middle Tennessee gave up three walks from Sam Brodersen and the bases were loaded, but Bates took the mound to relieve the Bulldogs. The Hot Springs, Arkansas, native made it through the inning with only one run allowed after the HBP. Cole McConnell singled up the right side of the field to secure the score and bring home the farr, increasing the Bulldogs' lead to 6-3.

Head Coach Lane Burrows
I hope our fans, myself included, see something happening that is rarely seen by anyone in this country. What Ethan is doing is incredible and once in a generation. You don't go into a game with the bases loaded and no one out, but it was a walk in the park for Bates. I'm proud of Will Safford for stepping up when the team needed it most, and I thought Cole McConnell's at-bat turned the game around. In the fifth inning, McConnell had an extra base at bat, and the pitcher's pitch count increased, eventually allowing him to hit a three-run home run. ”
