After adding one of the top guards in the transfer portal, Damon Stoudemire and Georgia Tech may not be done on that front just yet.
Rutgers transfer center Clifford Omoruyi is one of the top players in the entire transfer portal, and according to CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein, he has been linked to North Carolina, UCLA, Kansas State, Georgetown, Baylor, Alabama, Oregon, Washington, Georgia, St. John's, Mississippi.
This would be a monster addition for Georgia Tech. They needed a reliable center, and Omoruyi is the best center available. According to 247Sports, Omoruyi (6'10 230 LBS) is the No. 5 player in the entire transfer portal.
Below is a thorough report on Omoruyi, courtesy of 247Sports Director of Scouting Adam Finkelstein.
“Clifford Omoruyi has put his name in the transfer portal for his fifth and final season of eligibility after playing four years as a player and three years as a starter at Rutgers. He is an overwhelming big man, standing just over 7 feet tall with long arms.''He has a chiseled physique and averaged 13.2 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks in 30.3 minutes as a junior, but as a senior. His numbers dropped slightly to 10.4 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 2.9 blocks.
The best thing about Omoruyi is his ability to protect the rim. He finished 3rd overall in the country last year with a block rate of 12.72% per KenPom, and he was 1st overall in the country for the past two years of league play. He balances shot blocking with the ability to clean the glass, and has been among the top five players in the nation in defensive rebound percentage (league play) the past two years.
Offensively, Omoruyi does the majority of his damage in the paint, attempting 84% of his total shots to the rim, according to Pivot Analysis. His hands were a concern in high school, but he has made some progress over the past four years. He remains a lob threat and a big target for rolling off screens and rim running. He is a consistent threat on the offensive glass, but is less skilled away from the basket. He's a free-throw shooter at best (59% career), not a threat between the floors, and not a particularly reliable decision-maker or play-taking passer. ”
On Sunday, Stoudemire and Georgia Tech were able to acquire one of the top guards in the transfer portal, former Oklahoma guard Javian McCollum. McCollum is the Sooners' leading scorer and will give Georgia Tech a big boost in the backcourt next season alongside Knight George.
