Tuesday, April 9, 2024Plymouth has a new organization dedicated to attracting tourists and visitors to the city.
The city's destination marketing organization directs prospective visitors to the city's hotels and restaurants.
“We don't want them to leave and go to another city. We want them to support our business so that we don't lose our business. And we want them to support our business so that we don't lose our business. We want them to stay in our hotels and eat in our restaurants,” said Katie Langland. , Plymouth's destination marketing coordinator. “I think the city of Plymouth has a lot to offer that many people don’t know about, so this will be a great opportunity to showcase what Plymouth has to offer.”
It also promotes the city as a destination for events such as hockey tournaments and concerts at the Hilde Performance Center.
The city is launching a new advisory board for the marketing organization.
Plymouth City Council will appoint four members to the board. Anyone over the age of 21 working in the tourism or hospitality industry can apply.
Langland said these board members will help advance the city's marketing plan.
“They are experts,” Langland said. “Our restaurants, our hotels are experts in knowing who is coming to Plymouth, who is staying in our hotels, who is eating in our restaurants. , we will be able to say, this is what we already have and these are the people we want to meet here. And they will guide our marketing efforts. .”
Four members of the advisory committee will represent city businesses, and the remaining three seats will be filled by city employees.
Langland said more tourists could mean more places for residents to eat.
“That could lead to more restaurants,” she says. “So a lot of our residents want more restaurants in the city of Plymouth. They want to see more things to do. So if we can bring people in and there's more demand. This could lead to more restaurant owners wanting to develop here.”
