LebTown features a different Lebanon County pet every Friday to help you start your weekend in the best possible mood.
This week, meet Xoco!
The Xoco (pronounced “sho-ko”), Xoloitzcuintli (pronounced “sho-lo-it's-quintly”), is a Mexican hairless dog. Diahann Carroll, whose name means “her sister,” adopted her as a 3-month-old puppy in August with her son, Adam Carroll, of Annville. Ta.
“The Xoco is a standard size, so it will be about the size of a Lab,” says Diane. “They don't have skin like other dogs, but they do have skin that helps them navigate the forest, dating back to Aztec times.
Diane says the Xoloitzcuintli is a “very primitive breed” that dates back about 4,000 years. She added that while they have an interesting history, they are not a typical breed and “extensive research needs to be done” before someone considers adopting the dog.
“Xoco is incredibly intelligent, extremely athletic, and absolutely bonds with humans and herds,” says Diane. “I can’t wait to watch this beautiful girl grow into a grown-up adult!”
Congratulations to Xoco for being named this week's LebTown Pet of the Week!
