Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was watching Manchester United do everything in their power to equal their arch-rivals' record of 20 league wins, but when Arsenal arrived, Erik ten… I don't expect Hague's team to do anything in their favor.
Manager Klopp said of their situation after the game: “There's no problem at all.'' Arsenal dropped two points with a 2-2 draw and remained at the top of the table on goal difference..
The Gunners are scheduled to play Old Trafford on the penultimate weekend of the season, but the Liverpool manager is not expecting much of a helping hand.
“Maybe it would be great if we still existed, but Arsenal are a good football team and if they (United) play like they did today, Arsenal will win that game, I'm 100 I'm percent sure,” Klopp said. They have taken just two points from United this season.
“It's really disappointing, but we should have won both games but we didn't. It's our fault.”
The visitors were unable to capitalize on their early advantage, with only Luis Diaz scoring the opening goal, but Mohamed Salah saved a point with a penalty in the 84th minute.
A mistake by young centre-back Jarrell Quansah allowed Bruno Fernandes to level the score with a lob from the center circle past goalkeeper Caoikhin Kelleher, and Koby Mainu put the home side ahead.
“Feelings are obviously mixed. I was happy with a lot of parts of the game and winning 1-0 at Old Trafford and 15-0 shots (in the first half) was unbelievable. We should have acted more calmly, more clearly and in the moment, and we were able to do that,” added Klopp, who regretted not capitalizing on their early advantage.
“After 38 games, it (league position) becomes important. People and supporters too will say that now we need to improve our goal difference and aim for that, but that's the stupidest thing we can do. It would be an act.
“We are who we are, who we are, and that's why we're in the race. It's totally okay.
“We are fine with our situation. I wish we had won more points, but we are totally fine and I was really happy that they got us into that situation.
“The same players that missed some chances today are the same players that gave us 71 points.”
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag was equally pleased with his team's response after being trailing for much of the game.
“In the first half we lost duels and decision-making in the half-spaces. We weren't quick enough,” he said.
“We encouraged the team at half-time to win this duel. In the first half we couldn't take advantage, but in the second half we were able to take advantage.
“We needed time to correct Liverpool's mistakes during the game, which got us back in the game.
“That (second goal) was a very good team goal, a goal that was out of the game plan, so for the team to convey this in the way we did to get the ball into the far half. I'm very proud of the way I was able to do that. The finish after I got some space and switched on was great.”
Ten Hag also praised 19-year-old centre-back Willy Kambwala, who was making his second Premier League start.
“Decision? The old soldier has died and the new one has to come in. He has been training with us for a long time already and his progress in training is amazing and we I had no suspicions,” he added.
“We were confident he could do the job, so we're very happy he was able to perform. This is another signal that Manchester United have great potential. It is also a message.
“If we can get more players, especially in the backline where we had 27 combinations all season, the future will be very good.”
However, Ten Hag was not happy with his team surrendering late in three games in a row.
“It's very disappointing to be in a position to win in the last minute three times in a week and then drop points,” he said.
“We've all seen some bad decisions. All three games were bad decisions and it wasn't the same player every time.
“We have to improve. The sooner the better.”
