Ministry of Health issues voluntary recall warning for certain Robitussin honey cough syrup products due to potential microbial contamination
Posted: January 24, 2024, Newsroom
HONOLULU – The Hawaii Department of Health (DOH) Food and Drug Branch is warning residents of a voluntary recall by Haleon, the manufacturer of Robitussin cough syrup. Specifically, eight lots of Robitusin Honey CF Max Day Adult and Robitusin Honey CF Max Nighttime Adult cough syrup products are being recalled due to microbial contamination. The recalled product was distributed nationwide, including to retail stores and pharmacies here in Hawaii.
Immunocompromised people who use affected products may develop serious or life-threatening side effects such as fungemia and disseminated fungal infections. Although life-threatening infections are unlikely in people who are not immunocompromised, medical intervention may be required when infections occur. If consumers experience any problems that may be related to the consumption or use of the product, they should contact their physician or health care provider. To date, there have been no reports of adverse events believed to be caused by the recalled products.
The DOH Food and Drug Administration urges consumers to confirm whether they have a recalled product by checking the lot number and expiration date, immediately stop consumption, safely dispose of the product, or return it to the place of purchase. We advise you to do so and receive a refund. For more information, please contact Haleon Customer Relations at 1-800-245-1040 (Monday through Friday, 3am to 1pm HST) or email: [email protected].
