LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control (DACC) is inviting the community to participate in “Change a Pet’s Life Day” today, January 24th. This annual event is designed to promote pet adoption from shelters and raise awareness. About animals in need of help.
On this day, DACC is encouraging residents to visit one of the county's seven animal shelters to find a new furry family member. The department points to numerous studies showing pet ownership is linked to reduced stress, improved mental health, and improved physical health, making pet adoption transformative for both animals and owners. It emphasizes that it has a positive effect.
For those who already own a pet or are not ready to own one, DACC offers other ways to get involved. This includes becoming a fan of DACC and your local animal shelter on social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter), volunteering at DACC, fostering an animal, and the Los Angeles County Animal Rescue Foundation This includes donating to or simply sharing the animal shelter's story. Adopt a pet to inspire others.
“Pets bring immense joy to our lives,” said Marcia Maeda, Director of DACC. “National Change a Pet's Life Day is the perfect opportunity to find a forever friend who will provide you with unconditional love, lifelong companionship and devotion.”
DACC aims to place animals into forever homes and emphasizes that the love of being part of a new family can be a rewarding experience. We also encourage people who are unable to adopt to consider volunteering at animal shelters to improve the lives of animals.
