JOPLIN, MO — Active Lifestyle Events, ALE, a 501(c)3 organization dedicated to promoting health and fitness in our community, will present a check to representatives of the Joplin Trail Coalition on Tuesday, April 9th at 10 a.m. I will present it to you. The presentation will take place at the St. Louis Avenue trailhead, Frisco Greenway Trail. This donation was funded by past proceeds from the Joplin Memorial Run.
Joplin Trail Coalition (JTC) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating and maintaining multi-use trails in Joplin, Webb City, Carthage, Oronogo, and Carl Junction, Missouri. JTC currently manages two of his trails: the Frisco Greenway Trail, which runs through Joplin and Webb City, and the Ruby Jack Trail, which runs west from Carthage, Missouri through Oronogo and Carl Junction to the Kansas state line. .
The grant funded a new concrete ramp recently installed on the west side of St. Louis Avenue.
For trail users with disabilities, it was difficult to negotiate a transfer chair from the point where the sidewalk meets the trail across the drop-off area. This is also a safety issue for cyclists. The new ramp will make the Frisco His Greenway more accessible and safer for all trail users.
The tagline for the Joplin Memorial Run is “Run, Remember, Rebuild.” This race is dedicated to remembering those lost in the EF-5 tornado that struck Joplin on May 22, 2011, and supporting reconstruction efforts.
Through this event, ALE raised $350,000 for organizations including Bright Futures, United Way of SWMO, Rebuild Joplin, Bill Virginia Leffen Autism Center, Stained Glass Theater, and Joplin Humane Society. I donated more than that.
