The Texas Tech football program has faced some interesting non-conference opponents throughout its nearly 100-year history. But there are many programs the Red Raiders have never faced before.
Creating a soccer schedule is a difficult task. It often requires long-term foresight, some political maneuvering, and a lot of money.
Tech currently has future non-conference games scheduled with programs such as Washington State, Oregon State, North Carolina State, Mississippi State, Arkansas State and Oregon State. But today, let's take a look at a program the Red Raiders haven't faced yet.
UAB blazer: UAB only started playing football in 1991, so it's no shock that Tech has never been involved with the Blazers.
Florida Atlantic Owl: FAU has only had a soccer program since 2001. A familiar face, former Texas and Houston head coach Tom Herman, leads the program.
Memphis Tigers: Memphis has been one of the most successful mid-major programs year after year. They have played in 16 bowl games and won eight conference championships, so it's easy to imagine Tech facing them in a postseason game someday.
Charlotte 49ers: Charlotte is not a regional opponent for Texas Tech and doesn't have much of a football history, so it's easy to see why Texas Tech has never faced the 49ers before.
Temple owl: Despite playing football since 1894, Temple has only played nine bowl games. It's hard to imagine Texas Tech considering Temple a worthy opponent to bring anything to the Red Raiders.
UTSA Road Runner: Despite being a football program that only started in 2011, UTSA has become one of the strongest Group 5 programs in recent years. The Roadrunners would love to play against Texas Tech and will be looking for a chance to beat the in-state programs.
