Penn State is considered one of the top four schools as a major recruiting target from Maryland, but the Nittany Lions appear to be heading in the wrong direction as crystal ball predictions are starting to come in. It looks like
Trent Wilson, a native of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, is a four-star defensive lineman and is ranked No. 1 by various recruiting outlets. He is the No. 3 player overall in Maryland. Not surprisingly, Penn State is the school interested in acquiring his commitment, and Penn State has been active in his recruiting process. But it's been less than a week since he announced his top four schools, and as the decision gets closer, the favorites seem to be emerging at the top, which doesn't favor Penn State.
There are currently two crystal ball predictions on record on 247Sports, each predicting Oklahoma to be the winner with Wilson's commitment. One prediction comes from Oklahoma recruiting officials and the other comes from a national recruiting analyst, giving the Sooners a pretty decisive advantage in this process.
The On3 recruiting prediction machine currently calculates a 94.3% chance that Wilson will go to Oklahoma, with several more predictions logged last week. That percentage has increased several points since Wilson announced his top four teams.
This would be another tough blow to Penn State's recruiting efforts for the Class of 2024. Last week, Penn State had a swing and miss on the state's top quarterback, Matt Zollers, a 2025 graduate. Penn State has already lost out on the state's top player with edge rusher Zahir Mathis committing to Big Ten rival Ohio State. Penn State still has one of the top-ranked recruiting classes in the Big Ten and the nation, and while the Nittany Lions still have plenty of in-state recruiting targets, Penn State could use a little money. right. After a short and tough period of recruiting headlines, fortunes have now reversed.
